The lovely DFC illustrators have put together some brilliant tips on how to draw their characters for worksheets for festivals etc. Sarah McIntyre, author and illustrator of one of my favourite DFC strips, Vern and Lettuce, has posted hers on her blog. I can’t even manage to draw a stick man, but I just about managed it!

Off to big school

I have an exciting new job, which is the reason for the new blog. My equivalent of a fresh pencil case. I found I didn’t have much to say on the last one so hopefully a new challenge will change that. I’m really glad to be going to a company that encourages digital experimentation, even if some of it is slightly off the mark ($2.99 per chapter and you can only read it on your computer? Insanity).
So rather than spending most of my day trying to persuade colleagues that the internet is worthwhile for marketing, sales and publicity; I’m working with people who really believe that we can do something exciting online. And rather than spending lots of money trying to impress authors and agents with big outdoor campaigns, the entire business model is centred around digital. A weekly children’s comic that’s not available to buy in any shop, only obtainable as a subscription online. But it’s not a webcomic, it’s a physical comic that arrives in the post every week. And with some absolutely incredible authors and illustrators, it’s an attractive proposition. But I’m not allowed to say much more, the publicist will kill me.
Now to create a marketing plan that works. Simple.
